LSU is focused on maximizing our impact on the intellectual, economic
and social development of Louisiana, our nation and our world. LSU's
Office of Research & Economic Development is dedicated to creating
a better environment that promotes advanced research, creative scholarship,
and economic development. We have an aggressive focus on our
intellectual property development and commercialization activities
producing a greater, more lasting impact on the economic development
of Louisiana and beyond—an aim of the University’s National
Flagship Agenda.
At any given time, there are more than 2,000 sponsored research
projects being conducted by the more than 6,000 faculty and graduate
students at LSU. For the 2005-2006 fiscal year, LSU’s external research funding reached an all-time
high of $144.8 million, a tribute to our outstanding faculty, students and staff.
With support from national sources like the National Science Foundation, the
National Institutes of Health, the National Endowment for the Humanities, Department
of Homeland Security and NASA, LSU is forging new frontiers in hurricane response
and preparedness, bioscience, national security, technology, literature, coastal
sciences, and genetics. In addition, our efforts in economic development include
the creation and administration of several nationally recognized centers including
the LSU Center for Computation & Technology, LSU's Pennington
Biomedical Research Center, and the LSU Hurricane Center.
BRADIC is a joint community partnership with LSU's
Office of Research & Economic
